Obituary
Richard Rogers Rulon, 1943 - 2019
Richard R. Rulon, 76, of Fort Washington, PA, born on January 1, 1943, died peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019.
Rich was a graduate of Brown University and University of Pennsylvania Law School. He practiced immigration law for over 30 years as a partner at Dechert, Price and Rhoads and later as a founding partner of the Klasko immigration law firm. Richard served several terms as a commissioner for Upper Dublin Township, PA and ended his public service career as President of the Board.
Richard loved to ski, fish and spend summers at the shore in Beach Haven NJ with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Rulon, his five daughters, his five sons-in-law, and eleven grandchildren.
There will be a private memorial with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Variety Club Camp, 2950 Potshop Road, PO Box 609, Worcester PA 19490.
In April 2010 Rich wrote: "If it’s not too late to update our class’s Reunion
website, I have attached a Bio that summarizes what I have been doing since
graduating from Penn Charter 50 years ago. Hard to believe that much time
has gone by. I married Nancy Novotny, whom I dated throughout most of my
years at PC. We have five daughters (Melissa, Stefanie, Jennifer, Samantha,
and Amanda) and 11 grandchildren. I am sorry I will miss seeing my
classmates from the Class of 1960 and rekindling the memories of those
wonderful years. Much of who I am and what I have accomplished I owe to my
years at PC. Have a great reunion."
Richard R. Rulon (Rich) has been practicing immigration law for over 30
years. Throughout his practice, he has held leadership roles in the
Immigration law community serving on the Board of Governors of the American
Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and on the Board of Trustees of the
American Immigration Law Foundation (AILF). In 2005, he was the recipient of
AILF’s 2005 Honorary Fellow Award for his lifelong service to the field of
immigration and nationality law. As part of AILA’s Sixtieth Anniversary
Celebration in 2006, Mr. Rulon was one of ten AILA members recognized as
significant contributors to the organization. He is included in The Best
Lawyers in America (Woodward and White). Rich was a founding partner of the
firm, and became of counsel upon his retirement as a partner at the end of
2008.
Rich remains available by appointment to clients seeking his wealth of
expertise in the representation of multinational and domestic corporations,
their employees and private individuals in immigration matters as well as in
immigration-related litigation matters in federal court and before
administrative agencies.
In addition to his practice, Rich continues to play an active role in
helping to shape immigration reform legislation, working closely with
members of the U.S. Senate and their Congressional staffs. On a local level,
he is a past President of the Board of Commissioners of Pennsylvania’s Upper
Dublin Township.
