Obituary
Joseph A. Silvaggio, Jr. of Plymouth Meeting, PA, passed away on September 20, 2023 at the age of 81. Joe was born on July 3rd, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. Joe graduated from William Penn Charter prior to attending and graduating from University of Pennsylvania. Joe was known for his love of nature and the outdoors since he was young and would often enjoy hunting, trapping and fishing with his friend Bill and later his children and grandchildren. After college and completing his master’s degree, Joe got on one knee and proposed to the love of his life, Rose, prior to starting his professional career at DeLaval. This company would merge and change hands over the years to finally become Siemens Energy Group, a company that Joe was employed with until his death, a span covering 56 years.
Joe was blessed with a loving family. He met his wife to be, Rose Marie, at a church dance that neither wanted to attend. They were engaged and married within the year on October 29, 1966 (yes, the first day of small game season). Their romance lasted all 56 years and was blessed with three wonderful children and nine grandchildren. He lived a full life through his travels and adventures and enjoyed passing on his knowledge of fishing, hunting, and construction (as long as you used screws and measured at least three times).
Joe was an antler enthusiast (Gaston had nothing on him) who loved to talk about his walks in the woods (for hours) and share his camouflaged finds with his children and grandchildren that so loved his enthusiasm and kind soul. Like most nature lovers, he couldn’t help himself but to share his love and teaching moments with others either while fishing or sitting around with his family. Joe loved a good hunt, no matter the focus, and would spend hours looking for antlers, arrow heads, shark teeth, and fossils which aligned with his degrees in anthropology and archeology. If you are thinking Indiana Jones meets MacGyver, you are spot on.
Joe was a member of ASME, where he loved to impart his knowledge of mechanical engineering to the next generation. He was a lifetime member of Stoney Creek Anglers, Hellertown Sportsman Club, Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club, and the family favorite, YOHO Gun Club. Joe and his wife Rose were both members of DVDCC (“the decoy club”) where they shared their finds with fellow enthusiasts (plus they served great pizza). Moreover, Joe had a strong faith that he shared with his family, and a tight relationship with God. I am sure he is doing all the things he loved in Heaven.
Joseph was predeceased by his father, Joseph A. Silvaggio, Sr. and mother, Anna A. Silvaggio. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his sons Joee III (wife Lisa) and Christian (wife Beth); his daughter Nicole Werdell (husband Jim); his nine grandchildren Skyler, Jake, Britton, Nicholas, Luke, Alia, Isabella, Hunter and Samantha, and his brother Anthony A. Silvaggio.
